Today (or tomorrow in some traditions) is the feast of Saint Nicholas of Myra, a fourth century Christian bishop whose life of generosity and service to the poor (told mostly through legends) gave rise to his association with the traditional figure of a benevolent gift bringer. His name in various Germanic dialects is\u00a0<em>Sinterklaas<\/em>, or, (that&#8217;s right) \u2014 Santa Claus.<\/p>\n<p>For fun this morning, I put this picture up on my Facebook news feed. It sent some to Google, and elicited a wink and a nod from others whose classical religious education is similar to mine.
