Twenty questions for an evening when I have a good idea for a soul-searching, self-revealing, thoughtful post but not the focus to put it together. (We saw Lynn’s tree this afternoon, went to a university basketball game, and then took Lynn and her boyfriend out to dinner. A sudden snowstorm with icy rain meant it took an extra hour to get home.)<\/p>\n

1. Candy cane or peppermint patties?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u201d I have to choose??<\/p>\n

2. Sugar or gingerbread cookies<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Gingerbread.<\/p>\n

3. Tinsel or beaded strands<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d I would love real tinsel (to go on our artificial tree), but Ron\u00c2\u00a0put the kibosh on that (because it’s too hard to get off). So we use rigid\u00c2\u00a0aluminum twists that loop over the branch like a shepherd’s crook and are supposed to catch and reflect the light. They don’t.<\/p>\n

4. Multi-colored or same-colored lights<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d White miniature lights only.<\/p>\n

5. Flashing or still lights<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Still<\/p>\n

6. Wreaths or mistletoe\/holly<\/em>?\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u201d Holly wreaths<\/p>\n

7. Rudolph or Frosty<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Rudolph<\/p>\n

8. Sledding or snowball fights<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Sledding<\/p>\n

9. Snow or ice\/icicles<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Snow<\/p>\n

10. Snow hat or earmuffs<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Hat<\/p>\n

11. Getting or giving<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Giving<\/p>\n

12. Snow days or plow trucks<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Now that I’m out of the classroom, definitely fast and efficient plowing.<\/p>\n

13. Stockings or presents<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Presents<\/p>\n

14. Cookies & milk or letter to Santa<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d I think we did cookies and milk one year. We didn’t much do Santa, not for Lynn, and not when I was growing up.<\/p>\n

15. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Definitely Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n

16. Log Burning Channel or real thing<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d We have a real fireplace, very formal,\u00c2\u00a0which seemed like a good idea when the house was built (your living room was one quarter furnished even if you didn’t own a couch yet). I can’t remember the last time we had a fire there. Definitely before Lynn was born. I can’t stand the television on if there isn’t a specific program to watch. This is a Bah! Humbug! question.<\/p>\n

17. Cards or emails<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Either, as long as I hear from you.<\/p>\n

18. Shoveling or cleaning off the car<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Cleaning off the car.<\/p>\n

19. The Inn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s manger or the animals<\/em>? \u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00c2\u00a0 Animals.<\/p>\n

20. Mary & Joseph or The Wise Men?<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00c2\u00a0The Wise Men. Definitely my favorite Christmas symbol. They stand for adventure, following a star, and for\u00c2\u00a0change, by going home another way. I keep a set of Wise Men figurines on my desk all year.<\/p>\n

Soul-searching and self-revelation tomorrow.<\/p>\n

A year ago<\/a>, I was concerned about a homeless man who had taken up residence at the Fifth Street exit of I-90 in Sheridan, Wyoming.<\/p>\n

Two years ago<\/a>, I attended the choral concert at Lynn’s former high school.<\/p>\n

Three years ago, I still hadn’t started Holidailies.<\/p>\n

Four years ago, I was similarly silent. Wow, I thought I wrote every single day!<\/p>\n
