\nMonday<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Wow! I hardly know what to do with all my new decorations! It’s not quite Holidailies time yet \u00e2\u20ac\u201d this year the festivities run from December 5 to January 6, from the eve of Saint Nicholas Day to Epiphany \u00e2\u20ac\u201d but I put the badge up anyway. I failed utterly at NaBloPoMo this year, getting up only ten pieces. (It was the health scare, among other distractions.) So for that I’m just drawing a line and staying with the group, which has become more of a NaBloPoYe (National Blog Posting Year) instead of just a month.<\/p>\n

This piece is itself something of a placeholder, looking back and looking forward.\u00c2\u00a0Thanksgiving has been accomplished\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u201d turkey eaten, tree trimmed,\u00c2\u00a0Dragnet<\/em> watched. I’m resigned to not having my Amazing Holiday Extravaganza Open House this year, and am compensating by making all the foods anyway and serving them piecemeal. Today I\u00c2\u00a0shared mulligatawny and naan<\/em> and my festive pear tart with the cream cheese crust\u00c2\u00a0with a former student I had not seen in ten years, a young woman who did me the profound honor of looking me up on Facebook and making contact. Tomorrow I’m attending a morning Mass offered by my beloved Religion IV teacher<\/a> and when I greet him afterward I hope to pin him down to a time when he’ll come to feast on my white lasagna or ham balls and red velvet cake.<\/p>\n

So here’s to the first of December, and thirty more, and the start of Holidailies. See you tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Two years ago<\/a>, I felt an urgency “to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.”<\/p>\n

Three years ago<\/a>, I noted that it was the feast of St. Eligius, a sixth century bishop who had the power to cast out demons and cure the sick.<\/p>\n

Four years ago<\/a>, I heard an owl call my name.<\/p>\n
