(And that, I think, could be said of all their children. We grew into ourselves in spite of our mothers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 efforts to limit us).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2007: <a title=\"Twinge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.silkentent.com\/Trees\/?p=189\" target=\"_blank\">Twinge<\/a> &#8212; <em>As I drove through the business district of [Middletown] borough\u00c2\u00a0I noticed the Christmas decorations \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a lone lantern with a red bow \u00e2\u20ac\u201d strung across the streets at each intersection. It was a clear fall day, with mostly golds and oranges in the light and the air fragrant with fall leaves, and the Christmas decorations looked out of place. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>2006: <a title=\"Flashback\" href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.silkentent.com\/Trees\/?p=50\" target=\"_blank\">Flashback<\/a> &#8212; <em>I hated the Seventies. Or most of it, anyway. I was a young teacher establishing my career and my independent adult life and it should have been a wonderful, energizing time.\u00c2\u00a0And it was for a time until\u00c2\u00a0the fall of 1972, when I fell into a deep depression that lasted more than two years. I functioned at work but at home I slept a lot and cried through the weekends.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Love it? Hate it?
