This is a notebook of spiritual matters, a chronicle of my faith journey, a religious autobiography in the making. Here the reader will find observations, doubts, meditations, the occasional prayer. There will not, however, be preaching nor an altar call. I'm the world's worst evangelist.
"Sursum Corda" was my mother's favorite part of the Latin Mass, and when I hear it in English now in my Lutheran liturgy, I feel connected. It means "Lift up your hearts!" and the response is "We have lifted them up to the Lord!" (In Latin, "Habemus ad Dominum!"). It marks the shift from the Service of the Word to the Service of the Sacrament.
Despite the best of intentions, this area of The Silken Tent updates irregularly. In fact, it updated only once in the year 2000. Recent events have spurred me to renew my commitment to developing my spiritual autobiography. These pieces are valuable to me as part of my development as a woman of faith and a writer, so I've decided to collect them here in one place. Thus this index includes all the Sursum pieces posted since 1999. My hope is that there will be enough by the end of 2001 to warrant a fresh index page for 2002.
Although I endeavor to be something other than "a Sunday Christian," I might have to settle for being a Sunday Christian writer. To learn when new pieces are added to this section of The Silken Tent, join the Notify List.
